Syria’s "AG": Initiating a public lawsuit on perpetrators of violations against Syria

Damascus, SANA-The Attorney General of the Syrian Arab Republic, Judge Counselor Hassan al-Turba, affirmed the initiation of public lawsuits against a number of defendants for committing crimes and violations against the Syrian people, as part of implementing transitional justice, holding perpetrators accountable, and guaranteeing the rights of victims and their families.

In a statement, the Attorney General said: “As part of continuous efforts to prosecute perpetrators of crimes against the Syrian people, and in line with the implementation of transitional justice, after the Ministry of Interior referred a number of files of defendants accused of these violations, we have examined the records and submitted documents. Accordingly, public lawsuits have been initiated against the following individuals:”

1- Atef Najeeb, son of Najeeb and Fatima, born in Jableh in 1960.

2- Ahmad Badr Al-Din Hassoun, son of Muhammad Adeeb and Hamida, born in Aleppo in 1949.

3- Muhammad al-Shaar, son of Ibrahim and Maryam, born in al-Haffa in 1950.

4- Ibrahim Al-Huwaija, son of Ali and Badra, born in Jableh in 1940.

The Attorney General stressed that they have been referred to the competent investigating judge to initiate investigations and take legal action accordingly.

In this context, the Attorney General called on all those affected and their families, or anyone with testimonies or information regarding these violations, to submit what they have to be included in the investigation file. He also urged relevant human rights and humanitarian organizations to provide any documents or files that may help uncover the truth.

The Attorney General concluded the statement by saying: “We in the Public Prosecution confirm our commitment to achieving justice and will exert all necessary efforts to pursue and hold accountable those involved in these crimes, in order to guarantee the rights of victims and their families.”
