Cairo, July 11 (SANA) Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a telephone conversation on Saturday, emphasizing the importance of supporting efforts to achieve security and stability in Syria while preserving the country’s unity, sovereignty and institutions.
According to a statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the talks also covered developments in Lebanon, Sudan and Libya, with both sides stressing the need to safeguard state sovereignty to enhance regional security.
Abdelatty and Fidan highlighted the importance of regional de-escalation and called for intensified efforts to revive negotiations between the United States and Iran.
The ministers called for commitment to implementing the Washington-Tehran MoUs and stressed the need for dialogue and diplomacy to reach a final agreement and avoid further military escalation.
They also discussed coordination within the Regional Quadripartite Mechanism, which comprises Egypt, Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, underscoring the importance of continued consultations on regional security issues and respect for territorial integrity, while rejecting foreign interference or the use of force.
Regarding the Palestinian issue, the two ministers reaffirmed their rejection of any attempts to displace Palestinians. They stressed the urgent need to halt the escalation in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and ensure the full delivery of humanitarian aid.
The conversation came after recent remarks by Fidan to The National newspaper following the NATO summit, in which he warned that the policies of the current Israeli government pose a direct threat to regional and international security, while cautioning against attempts to obstruct progress and stability in Syria.
