Damascus, April 16 (SANA) A delegation from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) visited on Thursday Adra Central Prison in Damascus countryside to review detention conditions and the treatment of inmates, the Interior Ministry said on Thursday.
The delegation, headed by OHCHR Syria Director Huma Khan, examined procedures in place to ensure detainees are treated in line with international standards, according to a statement posted by the ministry on its Telegram channel.
During the visit, the delegation toured prison facilities, met with the administration to discuss operational procedures, and spoke with a number of inmates to hear their observations and assess the services provided.
The ministry said it remains committed to improving reform and rehabilitation centers and ensuring that detainees are treated with dignity and their rights protected.
The visit comes as part of ongoing efforts to enhance cooperation and exchange expertise aimed at improving detention conditions in line with international human rights standards.
