New York, Feb. 20 (SANA) Vanessa Frazier, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict, urged donor countries to support efforts by the UN and Syrian authorities to address unexploded ordnance and landmines in Syria.
UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric quoted Frazier following her recent visit to Syria, saying that “unexploded ordnance remains a serious challenge” and emphasizing the need for sustained international support to tackle the issue.
In his Thursday briefing, Dujarric said that the visit focused on exploring new avenues of cooperation with the Syrian government to strengthen child protection and expand UN assistance.
During her visit to Damascus, Frazier met with Justice Minister Mazhar al-Wais to discuss boosting cooperation and steps to remove Syria from the UN list of parties responsible for serious violations against children.
