Dmascus, Aug. 20 (SANA) Syria’s Drug Enforcement Department foiled an attempt to smuggle a large shipment of narcotic pills destined for a neighboring country, as part of its continued efforts to track and dismantle drug-trafficking networks.
The Department said in a post on Telegram Thursday that intelligence monitoring and field surveillance led to the discovery of a concealment method used by a smuggling network to hide the drugs.
Following inspection and verification, authorities seized 197,000 Captagon pills concealed inside the pole of cleaning squeegee, the Department said.
Investigations are continuing to identify all those involved and trace the members of the network, with a view to arresting them and referring them to the competent judiciary.
Earlier on Aug. 15, the Department announced that it had foiled an attempt to smuggle a drug shipment in the eastern countryside of Sweida, in coordination with the governorate’s Internal Security Directorate.
