UN envoy’s deputy rejects Israeli escalation against Syria

Damascus, Aug. 20 (SANA) UN Deputy Special Envoy for Syria Claudio Cordone on Thursday condemned the Israeli strikes on Abu al-Duhur Airbase in Idlib countryside, describing them as an unacceptable escalation against Syria.

In a post on X, Cordone said diplomacy must remain the primary path, while stressing the need for full respect for Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

Earlier on Wednesday,UN Secretary-General’s Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric also condemned the Israeli airstrikes targeting Abu al-Duhur Airbase in Idlib, describing them as a troubling violation of Syria’s territorial integrity and airspace.
