Damascus, Jan.14 (SANA) Minister of Education Mohammed Abdul Rahman Turko met Wednesday with Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization ‘ALECSO’ Director-General Mohamed Ould Amar and an accompanying delegation at the ministry’s headquarters in Damascus to discuss the current state of education in Syria and prospects for enhancing cooperation.
The talks reviewed the ministry’s priorities and the challenges facing the education sector, including damage to school buildings and mechanisms for rehabilitation and reconstruction to help sustain the learning process and ensure continuity.
Turko underscored the importance of updating and developing Syrian curricula, improving teachers’ conditions, and providing a suitable learning environment and essential services for returning Syrian students to ensure quality and efficiency in education delivery.
For his part, Ould Amar said ALECSO is ready to support the rehabilitation of school buildings, training of educational cadres, and the exchange of expertise, outlining the organization’s working mechanisms in the education sector and the challenges it faces.
Syria participated on Sept. 14 last year in an extraordinary session of ALECSO meetings held in Tunisia, aimed at strengthening its Arab engagement and activating its role in serving education and culture within broader efforts to support joint Arab action.
Founded in 1970, ALECSO is a regional organization that seeks to enhance Arab cooperation in education, culture and science and to coordinate among member states to develop educational and cultural systems across the Arab world.
