New Jersey, July 20 (SANA) Spain won the 2026 FIFA World Cup by defeating Argentina 1-0 after extra time in the final at New York New Jersey Stadium in the United States on Sunday.
Spain controlled much of the match and created the better chances throughout regulation time, with Lamine Yamal, Mikel Oyarzabal, Ferran Torres, Aymeric Laporte and Nico Williams all threatening Argentina’s goal, while goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez kept his side in the game with a series of saves.
Argentina’s task became more difficult late in the second half when midfielder Enzo Fernández was sent off, leaving the defending champions to play the remainder of the match with 10 men.
After a goalless 90 minutes, the final went into extra time, where Ferran Torres scored the decisive goal in the 106th minute to secure Spain’s victory.
The triumph earned Spain its second FIFA World Cup title, adding to its maiden triumph at the 2010 tournament in South Africa.
