Ankara, March 9 (SANA) – Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry summoned Iran’s ambassador to Ankara, Mohammad Hassan Habibollahzadeh, on Monday to lodge a formal protest after a ballistic missile launched from Iranian territory entered Turkish airspace.
According to Anadolu Agency, diplomatic sources said Ankara requested urgent clarification from Tehran regarding the incident and expressed concern over the possibility of similar violations.
Earlier Monday, Türkiye’s Defense Ministry said NATO air defense systems intercepted the missile shortly after it entered the country’s airspace.
The ministry added that a similar incident occurred last Wednesday when a NATO defense system stationed in the eastern Mediterranean intercepted another missile heading toward Turkish airspace.
Iran has continued missile and drone attacks across several countries in the region following the ongoing US-Israeli war against Iran, resulting in casualties and damage to infrastructure.
