New York, Aug. 11 (SANA) U.N. Deputy Special Envoy for Syria Claudio Cordone affirmed that Colombia’s recognition of what it described as “Israeli sovereignty” over the occupied Syrian Golan constitutes a clear violation of international law.
“The Golan is occupied Syrian territory,” Cordone wrote in a post on the X platform on Tuesday, noting that UN Secretary-General António Guterres had recently reiterated this position during his visit to Damascus.
Colombia’s statement, issued on August 10, triggered widespread Arab condemnation.
Syria reiterated that the Golan is an integral and inseparable part of its territory, stressing that the Colombian government’s statement constitutes a flagrant violation of the UN Charter.
