Washington, March 23 (SANA) U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that the United States would pause “any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure” for five days as Washington and Tehran engage in diplomatic negotiations.
In a post on Truth Social on Monday, Trump said the United States and Iran had held “very good and productive conversations” over the past two days, describing them as “in depth, detailed, and constructive conversations.”
He added that, based on these talks, he had directed a pause on strikes against Iranian energy infrastructure for five days, noting that discussions “will continue throughout the week.”
Trump had earlier threatened to target Iranian energy facilities, beginning with the largest, if Tehran did not reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours, stressing that Washington would not allow the waterway to be used as leverage.
Earlier this month, Iran restricted navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, warning it could target vessels attempting to pass without coordination, in response to ongoing U.S. and Israeli strikes.
The strait carries around 20 million barrels of oil per day, and disruptions there have driven up shipping costs, insurance rates and global oil prices, raising concerns over global energy markets.
