Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ibrahim Olabi, strongly condemned the Israeli aggression that targeted Beit Jinn town in Damascus countryside, which claimed the lives of 13 civilians and injured dozens, affirming that protecting the Syrian people remains a top priority.
Speaking to al-Arabiya Al-Hadath TV Friday, Olabi said that Syria is moving forwards on all levels and will not be dragged into provocations of the occupation, but it will respond through internationally-recognized means, adding that Syria is exerting all possible efforts diplomatically to “isolate Israel internationally and limit the
support of its allies.”
The Syrian diplomat added that during the latest UN Security Council session, 15 member states condemned the Israeli attacks and stressed Syria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, noting that efforts are still exerted to renew the mandate of the United Nations’ Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) to reinforce security and stability along the disengagement lines.
He underlined that Syria today speaks from a position of strength in light of the political, economic and military progress, clarifying that direct military retaliation is not currently an option in order to safeguard these gains.
