Dublin, July 8 (SANA) The Irish parliament has approved a bill banning imports of goods produced in Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, making Ireland the first European Union member state to adopt such legislation.
According to AFP, Ireland’s coalition government said the legislation was drafted in line with the International Court of Justice’s 2024 advisory opinion, which found that Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip is illegal under international law.
The measure follows a series of steps taken by Ireland in response to the war in Gaza. Dublin formally recognized the State of Palestine in 2024 and last month barred Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich from entering the country over their actions against activists aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla.
Spain has also introduced restrictions on imports from Israeli settlements, with the measures taking effect last October.
