Vienna, October 5 (SANA) A Syrian delegation headed by Brig. Gen. Khaled Eid, director of the Anti-Narcotics Department at the Ministry of Interior, toured the scientific laboratories at the United Nations headquarters in Vienna, accompanied by officials from the Scientific and Laboratory Services Division.
The delegation was briefed on the scientific standards and procedures used to analyze narcotic substances and identify chemical precursors, as well as the latest equipment and technologies and the safety procedures in place.
On the sidelines of the visit, the delegation held a meeting with Martin Reiterlehuber, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) official responsible for drug control, and Laura Hentika, an official in charge of scientific affairs at the Drug Laboratory.
The meeting explored mechanisms for cooperation and the exchange of technical and scientific expertise, as part of the Syrian Arab Republic’s efforts to strengthen its national capacities in combating drug trafficking and illicit drugs.
