Washington, June 8 (SANA) U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday called on Israel and Iran to immediately stop exchanging attacks and return to negotiations, warning that continued military escalation could undermine diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said: “Israel and Iran must stop firing immediately.”
Trump said both sides had already exchanged strikes and argued that further escalation was unnecessary, adding that the United States remained close to reaching an agreement with Iran.
“We are very close to reaching a final agreement with Iran,” Trump said, according to media reports, adding that he did not want the situation to deteriorate because of the latest developments.
He also said continued military operations would not help advance ongoing negotiations and called for space to be given to diplomatic efforts.
The remarks came amid renewed hostilities between Israel and Iran. The Israeli military said it had carried out strikes on several targets at the petrochemical complex in Mahshahr in southwestern Iran, as well as other military sites across the country.
The strikes followed Iranian missile launches against Israel hours earlier, in the latest exchange between the two sides.
The renewed violence has heightened concerns about a broader regional confrontation, as international actors continue efforts to contain the crisis and prevent further escalation.
