Hasakah, June 8 (SANA) Farmers in Syria’s northeastern province of Hasakah have begun harvesting this season’s wheat crop, with authorities preparing 17 collection and storage centers as production is expected to exceed one million tons.
Harvesting is currently concentrated in southern parts of the province, where favorable rainfall and weather conditions have supported what agricultural officials describe as one of the strongest seasons in recent years.
Ezzedine al-Hasso, assistant director of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform in Hasakah, said around 248 combine harvesters are operating across the province. Wheat yields have ranged between 250 and 500 kilograms per dunum in irrigated and rain-fed areas.
To facilitate procurement, authorities have opened an agricultural office in the town of al-Haddadiyah in the al-Arisheh area to register farmers and issue certificates required for marketing the crop.
Barley harvesting is also underway, with about 3,100 hectares of irrigated barley and 39,500 hectares of rain-fed barley harvested so far, according to the Agriculture Directorate.
Abdul Hamid Dawoud, head of the Syrian Grain Establishment branch in Hasakah, said 17 collection centers have been prepared to receive wheat deliveries from farmers. The facilities are located near major production areas and include silos and storage units distributed across the province.
According to official estimates, wheat cultivation this season covered approximately 463,500 hectares of irrigated and rain-fed land. Total wheat output is expected to exceed 1.025 million tons, while barley production is projected at around 609,000 tons.
Hasakah is Syria’s largest wheat-producing province and plays a central role in the country’s grain supply and food security.
