Athens, June 8 (SANA) Syria, represented by the General Authority for Fish Resources and Aquatic Life, took part in the 14th session of the Scientific Advisory Committee on Aquaculture (CAQ) under the UN‘s General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM), held on the Greek island of Rhodes from June 3 to 5.
The Syrian delegation reaffirmed Syria’s commitment to developing the aquaculture sector based on sustainability principles and enhancing regional cooperation, the authority said in a Facebook post. Syria also submitted a number of scientific proposals to develop the sector, support innovation and promote digital transformation.
The participation is part of Syria’s efforts to strengthen its presence in international forums and support development of the fisheries sector, contributing to food security and sustainable development, the authority added.
The GFCM is a regional fisheries management organization under the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), responsible for managing fishery resources in the Mediterranean and Black Seas through common policies, sustainable aquaculture practices, scientific research and experience-sharing among member states.
