Doha, April 14 (SANA) Spokesperson for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Majed al-Ansari said on Tuesday that resolving the Strait of Hormuz crisis requires a regional approach involving states with shared coastlines and countries that depend on the strait. He added that these states should be part of the solution rather than the problem.
Speaking at a press conference broadcast by Al Jazeera, al-Ansari described the situation in the strait as urgent, stressing the need to reach a sustainable solution. He said that the security of the waterway must not be threatened by any party and should not be used as leverage or subject to preconditions for reopening, noting that any closure would have consequences beyond energy markets.
He added that Qatar is in contact with partners to reopen the strait and mitigate the negative repercussions of its closure, affirming support for ongoing talks and continued regional and international coordination.
Al-Ansari stressed the importance of maintaining the ceasefire between Iran and the United States and working to consolidate it, emphasizing that all crises should be resolved through dialogue. He reiterated Qatar’s support for de-escalation efforts and ending the war in Lebanon.
He also noted that Qatar supports Pakistan’s mediation efforts between Iran and the United States, adding that intensive regional contacts are underway to advance mediation and reduce tensions, while awaiting confirmation of a new round of talks in Pakistan.
