Washington, April 6 (SANA) – A senior White House official said that a proposal for a 45-day ceasefire remains one of several ideas under discussion and has not yet been approved by Donald Trump.
The official told NBC News that U.S. President Donald Trump has postponed his deadline related to developments around the Strait of Hormuz, expressing optimism that an agreement to halt the war could be reached before the new deadline.
Trump said there was a “good chance” for an agreement, warning that failure to reach a deal could lead to further escalation.
The deadline that Trump had initially set for Iran was expected to expire Monday evening after ten days, but it was extended by an additional 20 hours, with the new deadline set for Tuesday at 8 p.m. Eastern Time.
According to the report, the ceasefire proposal was conveyed through mediators from Pakistan, Türkiye and Egypt, alongside exchanges of messages between U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
