Brussels, March 19 (SANA) – UN Secretary-General António Guterres called on Thursday for an immediate end to the ongoing war in the Middle East, warning of its serious security and economic consequences worldwide.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with European Union leaders in Brussels, Guterres said “it is time to end this war that risks spiraling completely out of control,” urging Iran to halt its attacks on neighboring countries and reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
He warned that continued disruption of navigation through the strait could trigger a major global crisis, affecting trade and energy supplies.
Guterres’ remarks come amid growing concerns over the escalating US-Israeli-Iranian conflict and its widening impact, particularly following attacks targeting vital infrastructure and energy facilities in the Gulf, raising fears of a global fuel crisis.
