Riyadh, March 15 (SANA) The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) on Sunday condemned a second attack in a week targeting the United Arab Emirates’ consulate in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, injuring two security personnel and causing damage to the building.
GCC Secretary-General, Jasem Mohamed Al Budaiwi said in a statement published on the council’s website that the repeated targeting of the UAE diplomatic mission constitutes “a clear violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations” and represents a dangerous escalation threatening the safety of diplomatic staff.
Al Budaiwi reaffirmed the solidarity of GCC member states with the UAE, stressing the council’s rejection of “all forms of violence and terrorism that undermine security and stability in the region.”
The attack comes just days after the consulate was hit by a drone strike last Tuesday, which caused damage but no injuries and prompted widespread condemnation from several countries, including Syria.
The region has seen escalating military tensions since Feb. 28 amid the ongoing U.S.–Israeli–Iranian conflict, accompanied by Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting key facilities in several Arab countries.
