London, May 19 (SANA) Syria’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Marwan al-Halabi, held a series of meetings Tuesday with fellow education ministers participating in the Education World Forum 2026, hosted by the British capital, to discuss avenues for academic, cultural, and scientific cooperation with Syria.
The meetings were held during an official event at Lancaster House — a landmark historic venue in central London — organized under the patronage of the UK Minister of State for Education and Women’s Equalities Bridget Phillipson. Al-Halabi met with his counterparts from Lebanon, Libya, Egypt, Jordan, Ghana, Mauritania, and Azerbaijan, as well as a number of European delegations.
Discussions focused on developing cooperation and academic partnerships with Syria across various fields of higher education and scientific research.

On Monday, al-Halabi also met on the forum’s sidelines with the World Bank Group Director for Education and Skills Christian Bodewig, during which they discussed the state of higher education in Syria and the challenges facing universities, educational institutions, and university hospitals after years of war and systemic deterioration.
Syria is participating in the Education World Forum 2026, held in London from May 17 to 20, as part of national efforts to develop the education system, modernize curricula, advance digital transformation, and explore the application of artificial intelligence in the educational process. The Syrian delegation also includes Minister of Education Mohammed Abdul Rahman Turko and a number of senior officials.
