Beirut, March 8 (SANA) Israeli overnight airstrikes on Beirut and southern Lebanon killed at least 15 people and wounded another 15, Lebanon’s Health Ministry said Sunday.
The strikes targeted several locations in the Lebanese capital and areas across southern Lebanon, the ministry said in a statement carried by Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA).
One wave of Israeli airstrikes hit Beirut and southern Lebanon, killing six people and wounding five others, according to the ministry. Another airstrike that struck a hotel in Beirut killed four people and injured 10.
Separate Israeli drone strikes on the towns of Jabal al-Batoum and Kafr Rumman killed five people, the statement added.
Ambulance and civil defense teams were continuing search-and-rescue operations in the affected areas, the Health Ministry said.
The strikes come amid a sharp escalation in hostilities between Israel and the Hezbollah militia after the group fired several missiles toward Israeli positions. Israel responded with air raids on Beirut’s southern suburbs as well as parts of southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley.
