Starmer discusses Middle East escalation with European leaders
Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer

London, March 6 (SANA) – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer held phone calls on Friday with the leaders of France, Germany and Italy to discuss the escalating situation in the Middle East.

According to a statement from the UK Prime Minister’s Office, Starmer briefed his European counterparts on defensive measures taken by Britain in recent days to support security in the region and help protect partners.

The leaders agreed on the importance of maintaining intensive diplomatic efforts and close military coordination, and stressed the need for joint consultations regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The conflict between the United States and Israel on one side and Iran on the other has continued since Feb. 28, while several Gulf Cooperation Council countries, along with Jordan and Iraq, have reported Iranian attacks that caused casualties and material damage.
