Next phase of war could target Iran’s underground missile bunkers- report

London, March 6 (SANA) The joint military campaign by Israel and the United States against Iran is expected to enter a second phase targeting underground ballistic missile facilities, two sources familiar with the operation told Reuters.

The sources said the next stage of the campaign could focus on bunkers storing ballistic missiles and related equipment after hundreds of Iranian missile launchers above ground that could target Israeli cities were struck.

According to the report, many such strikes would likely be carried out by the United States using heavy bombers capable of deploying bunker-busting bombs designed to penetrate heavily fortified underground facilities.

The sources said attacks on underground sites may require specialized munitions and aircraft able to penetrate the thick layers of rock and reinforced concrete protecting the installations, reflecting Iran’s extensive network of fortified underground missile bases.

The development comes as the war enters its first week, with missile and drone attacks exchanged between the sides and tensions spreading across the Middle East as the conflict’s repercussions affect several countries in the region.
