Damascus, March 31 (SANA) The General Authority for Borders and Customs announced on Tuesday the reopening of the al-Tanf border crossing with Iraq as part of efforts to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.
The authority’s Director of Public Relations, Mazen Alloush, said in a Facebook post that convoys of Iraqi oil tanker trucks have begun entering through the crossing en route to the Banyas oil refinery, reflecting the resumption of commercial transit and the strengthening of energy flows through Syrian territory.
Alloush added that a delegation from the Borders and Customs Authority conducted a field inspection of al-Yarubiyah crossing on the Syrian–Iraqi border in preparation for activating operations there at the beginning of May, along with reviewing the situation at the Semalka–Fishkhabour crossing as part of procedures to integrate it into the authority’s operational framework. He said these steps aim to improve coordination between border crossings and facilitate the movement of goods and passengers.
He stressed that these measures represent an important step in enhancing economic connectivity between Syria and Iraq, activating trade and energy routes, and supporting broader economic integration in the coming period.
