Brussels, March 31 (SANA) The European Commission on Tuesday expressed deep concern over the Israeli authorities’ approval of a law permitting the execution of Palestinian prisoners.

According to Reuters, a Commission spokesperson said the European Union is concerned about Israel’s decision to pass legislation making execution by hanging an automatic sentence for Palestinians convicted by military courts of carrying out deadly attacks.

He added that this represents a clear step backward, calling on Israel to adhere to its obligations under international law and uphold democratic principles.

Israeli authorities approved the law on Monday, allowing for the implementation of death sentences against Palestinian prisoners.
