UK, China discuss strengthening ties amid recent disputes
Chinese President-Xi Jinping, UK Prime Minister-Keir Starmer

Beijing, Jan. 29 (SANA) Chinese President Xi Jinping and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Thursday underscored the need to foster bilateral relations and overcome recent disputes amid a complex international environment.

AFP quoted Xi as saying during the meeting with Starmer in Beijing that the current international situation is highly complex. He stressed the importance of strengthening dialogue and cooperation between China and the UK, noting that both are UN Security Council permanent members and major global economic powers.

For his part, Starmer said existing disagreements should not prevent cooperation, emphasizing that China plays a pivotal role internationally and that building a deeper relationship would allow for expanded dialogue and collaboration on various issues.

The visit marks the first by a British prime minister to China since 2018, as London seeks to rebuild a pragmatic partnership with Beijing after years of strained relations.
