Kuwait,Sept. 2 (SANA) Kuwait condemned Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting several sites in the country Wednesday, including a residential complex, saying they constituted a flagrant violation of its sovereignty and a threat to its security and stability.
In a statement posted on X on Wednesday, the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry said the continuation of the attacks constituted a grave breach of international law and the U.N. Charter, as well as a violation of U.N. Security Council Resolution 2817.
The ministry said the attacks represented a dangerous escalation that threatened regional security and stability and undermined diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation and reducing tensions.
Kuwait reaffirmed what it described as its full right to take all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty, protect its security and interests, and ensure the safety of its citizens and residents in accordance with international law.
U.N. Security Council Resolution 2817, adopted on March 11, 2026, condemned Iranian attacks against Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan and demanded that Iran halt such attacks and comply with its obligations under international law.
The resolution further condemned actions or threats aimed at closing or obstructing international navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
Earlier Wednesday, the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces said the country’s air defense systems were responding to hostile missile and drone threats. It said explosions heard in the country were caused by air defense systems intercepting hostile targets.
