Damascus, Oct. 3 (SANA) More than 600 surgeons from Syria and abroad took part in a two-day medical conference in Damascus focused on advances in general and laparoscopic surgery, including gastrointestinal procedures, trauma care and surgical training.
The conference, which concluded Friday at Damascus National University Hospital, marked the 24th annual scientific meeting of the Syrian Association of General Surgeons and the fifth meeting of the Syrian Association for Visceral Laparoscopic Surgery.
About 40 presentations were delivered across six scientific sessions, including online contributions from Britain and Switzerland.
The final day included discussions on gastrointestinal surgery, including LINX implantation versus Nissen fundoplication for gastroesophageal reflux, management of gastric malignancies and whether D3 lymph node dissection in right-sided colon cancer should be performed routinely or selectively.
Other presentations covered midline hernia surgery, blunt abdominal trauma and complications involving surgical mesh.
A separate session focused on surgical practice and training, including laparoscopic surgery during wartime, trauma surgery training and the use of simulation in surgical education.
The conference also covered developments in liver and endocrine surgery, bariatric surgery and other areas of gastrointestinal and laparoscopic surgery.
Held under the theme “Advances in General and Laparoscopic Surgery,” the event was organized in cooperation with Syria’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Syrian Doctors Syndicate.
