Tartous, April 27 (SANA) The Syrian Atomic Energy Commission, in cooperation with Al-Andalus University for Medical Sciences in Tartous province, organized a scientific forum focused on the expanding role of peaceful nuclear technologies in healthcare, medical research and pharmaceutical development.
Held at the university campus in the Qadmous area of Tartous countryside, the event brought together academics, researchers, students and technical specialists to discuss modern applications of radioactive isotopes, radiopharmaceuticals and nuclear techniques used in diagnosis and treatment.
Sessions highlighted advances in producing and characterizing medical isotopes through cyclotron technology, improving radiopharmaceutical systems, ensuring quality standards, and using imaging tools such as PET-CT in cancer detection and management. Speakers also addressed chemical and radiation safety practices in research and medical facilities.
University President Samer Qabaa said the initiative reflects efforts to connect academic research with practical healthcare needs, adding that the university is working to introduce advanced cancer treatment technologies, including proton therapy, at affordable cost for Syrian patients.
Participants said the event demonstrates growing cooperation between research institutions and universities aimed at training young national cadres in nuclear medicine, medical physics and specialized healthcare sciences.
