Damascus, Oct. 6, (SANA) Syrian and Belarusian business officials discussed expanding trade and joint production during talks in Damascus on Monday, focusing on exports, raw-material supplies and cooperation in several industrial sectors.
Mohammad Ayman al-Mawlawi, head of the Damascus and Damascus Countryside Chamber of Industry, met Riyad Hamad, the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s representative in Syria, to discuss ways to expand economic ties between the two countries.
The talks focused on drawing up broader lists of products that could be traded between Syria and Belarus by identifying each side’s needs, including demand for raw materials and opportunities for joint production in the textile, food, chemical and engineering industries.
The two sides also discussed exchanging lists of manufacturers and traders interested in bilateral imports and exports, as well as schedules of trade fairs and other economic events planned during the year.
Belarusian representatives said they were ready to share their expertise and provide Syrian businesses with information on laws and regulations supporting the private sector and facilitating access to markets.
The Damascus and Damascus Countryside Chamber of Industry said it was prepared to host about 30 Belarusian traders specializing in clothing and textiles at trade fairs in Syria. It said it would provide logistical support and help arrange entry visas.
The meeting was attended the adviser at the Belarusian Embassy in Damascus, and several members of the chamber’s board.
On June 23, the Damascus Countryside Chamber of Commerce held separate talks with a Belarusian trade and economic delegation on strengthening economic ties and expanding bilateral trade.
