Idleb Jan.16 (SANA) A team of Syrian doctors based in the United Kingdom and the United States is performing advanced heart and vascular surgeries at SAMS (Syrian American Medical Society ) Hospital in Idleb, continuing for the third consecutive day as part of a joint initiative with the local health directorate.
Dr. Abdul Rahman Arabi, a cardiology consultant and member of the visiting team, told SANA on Thursday that the doctors are conducting five diverse heart operations daily, in addition to eight coronary procedures and three valve-dilation surgeries. He praised the local hospital staff for showing significant improvement in surgical skills and patient care.

“These visits are designed to foster knowledge exchange between Syrian doctors working abroad and their counterparts in local hospitals,” Arabi said. “Such collaboration helps enhance medical expertise and improves the overall quality of healthcare services in the region.”
Among the patients benefiting from the program is a man from Homs province who underwent a complex procedure to open both the mitral and aortic valves. His daughter expressed her deep gratitude to the medical team, noting that the surgery was provided completely free of charge. “Previously, we could not afford this operation due to its high cost,” she said.
SAMS (Syrian American Medical Society) is a non-profit humanitarian organization dedicated to providing healthcare and medical education in Syria and neighboring countries. Founded in 1998 by Syrian-American physicians, SAMS aims to support communities affected by humanitarian crises and to strengthen local medical capacities.
