Baku, March 7 (SANA) – Azerbaijan’s State Security Service said on Saturday it had thwarted Iranian espionage and sabotage plots targeting strategic sites inside the country.
According to the Azerbaijan State News Agency, the security service said the alleged plans targeted key facilities, including the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan oil pipeline and the Israeli embassy in Baku.
Authorities said the operation uncovered links between an Azerbaijani citizen and a cell led by two Iranian nationals. Explosive materials were reportedly found hidden in the Garadagh district of Baku, while security forces dismantled three smuggled explosive devices and detained suspects involved in the plot, and investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals and potential targets linked to Iranian intelligence networks.
Earlier this week, Nakhchivan International Airport and several areas in Azerbaijan were reportedly targeted by Iranian drone attacks, causing injuries and material damage.
