Damascus, Jan. 18 (SANA) Syria’s Ministry of Education plans to launch a national digital education system at the start of the second academic term, aiming to expand access to schooling and integrate technology into the education sector, officials said.
The initiative will roll out through three main components: online educational platforms, official educational channels on YouTube, and a nationwide virtual school designed to serve students who are unable to attend in-person classes.
Issam Ramadan, director of the National Center for Curriculum Development, said the digital platforms will provide lessons and supplementary materials aligned with national curricula and accessible to students across the country. The YouTube channels will offer additional educational content, while the virtual school will focus on distance learning, particularly in areas lacking formal schools.
Ramadan said the virtual school will deliver accredited instruction through a structured digital environment, using interactive live and recorded lessons, online assignments and exams, and continuous assessment tools overseen by qualified teachers.
The system will also integrate existing digital platforms for kindergarten, primary, and secondary education, as well as locally developed platforms in Damascus, Hama, and Tartous, in an effort to link classroom-based instruction with online learning.
According to Ramadan, interactive digital textbooks will form a core element of the system, allowing students to engage with content through audio, writing, and visual tools.
The official said the platform will also make use of technologies such as artificial intelligence and virtual reality to provide interactive learning experiences, including video lessons, direct academic support, and virtual laboratories featuring three-dimensional simulations.
The ministry said the project is part of broader efforts to modernize Syria’s education system, ensure continuity of learning, and improve access to education amid ongoing challenges facing the sector.
