Al-Halabi Minister, “SPARK” org. discuss ways to develop higher education in Syria

Damascus, SANA-Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Marwan al-Halabi discussed with Christel Bultman, Executive Director of the Netherlands organization Spark, ways to cooperate in updating curricula, providing scholarships, building capacity, and supporting entrepreneurship.

The meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters, addressed promoting digital leadership and supporting technology incubators, such as the Digit Center in Damascus. The meeting also explored the possibility of establishing similar centers in other governorates, as well as developing technical education through training courses and modernizing laboratories and institutes.

Minister Halabi confirmed the formation of a joint committee to develop a roadmap for cooperation, enhancing the link between higher education and the labor market. For her part, Bultmann expressed Spark’s readiness to support Syrian youth, especially refugees, through educational and vocational programs that will contribute to the country’s reconstruction.

Firas Deeb, Partnerships Director at the Syrian Development Organization, also pointed to the possibility of cooperation in developing curricula and integrating students into the labor market, emphasizing SPARK’s successes in several countries.

SPARK is an international non-profit organization founded in 1994. It operates in more than 15 countries to support conflict-affected groups through education, training, and entrepreneurship.
