Damascus, July 13 (SANA) Syrian Economy and Industry Minister Nidal al-Shaar said on Monday that Syria was opening “a new chapter” in its economic relationship with the United States, following recent U.S. decisions that would help revive trade, investment and financial cooperation.

Speaking at the first Annual Syrian-American Business Forum organized by the Syrian-American Business Council and the Economy and Industry Ministry in Damascus, al-Shaar said the new phase would be based on cooperation, partnership and building a shared economic future.

“We are opening a new chapter in economic relations between Syria and the United States, founded on cooperation, partnership and the building of a shared economic future,” he said.

Al-Shaar welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump‘s decision to remove Syria from the U.S. list of state sponsors of terrorism, describing it as a “historic decision” and a significant turning point in bilateral economic relations.

He said the recent U.S. measures represented more than a policy shift, saying they removed barriers that had long constrained trade, discouraged investment and limited financial engagement.

“These decisions pave the way for a new economic relationship focused on the future rather than the past,” the minister said.

Al-Shaar said the Syrian government viewed the developments as an opportunity to accelerate economic recovery and attract investment, while stressing the responsibility to translate the policy changes into sustainable economic progress.

“We welcome these decisions with great appreciation, while recognizing our responsibility to turn this opportunity into sustainable economic progress that strengthens investment and trade and serves the interests of the Syrian people,” he said.

The forum, held in Damascus, brought together officials and business representatives to discuss prospects for expanding economic cooperation and encouraging investment between Syria and the United States.
