Economy Minister, CBS Governor inspect new Syrian currency exchange operations

Damascus, Jan. 5 (SANA) Syria’s Minister of Economy and Industry, Nidal al-Shaar, and Central Bank Governor Abdelkader Husrieh conducted an inspection tour of several currency exchange centers in Damascus on Sunday to oversee the exchange of new banknotes and ensure compliance with official guidelines.

The visit focused on evaluating the centers’ operational readiness, technical performance, and adherence to approved currency exchange procedures, according to the Ministry of Economy’s Telegram channel. The inspection also aimed to ensure efficient service delivery and alignment with regulatory standards.

Al-Shaar stated that the visit is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to monitor the implementation of economic policies, improve service efficiency, boost confidence in the banking sector, and support monetary stability.

Governor Husrieh emphasized the importance of strict compliance with official instructions regarding the new banknote exchange and called for simplified procedures to ensure that banking services meet the highest professional standards.

Syria officially launched its new national currency on the first day of the new year, marking the end of the deposed regime’s era and the beginning of a new phase aimed at revitalizing the economy after years of conflict. The new banknotes feature a new design and have removed two zeros from the denomination.
