Damascus, SANA- Governor of the Central Bank of Syria (CBS), Abdul Qader al-Hasriya, said that the plan to issue the new currency comes within the framework of developing the monetary structure and facilitating daily transactions, and is part of the monetary and financial reform process.
“The primary goal is to improve the quality of the banknotes in circulation and ensure that market needs are met,” Al-Husriya said in a statement, adding that we do not expect any negative repercussions on the value of the national currency. He articulated that the quantities printed of the new currency will be carefully studied to suit the requirements of the national economy.
Al-Husriya pointed out that the new currency features high technical specifications and modern anti-counterfeiting technologies, which contribute to enhancing confidence in the national currency and protecting the rights of users.
He added that the new banknotes will be printed by two or three reliable international sources, using the latest anti-counterfeiting technologies, enhancing the reliability of circulation and protecting the rights of users.
The issuance of the new currency is a technical and regulatory measure within the framework of the Central Bank of Syria’s monetary policy and is not linked to increasing the money supply in the market. Rather, it aims to improve the management of cash circulation and facilitate payment and purchase transactions, the Governor of the Central Bank said.
