Syrian development fund, Germany’s BMZ discuss early recovery cooperation

Damascus, Feb. 1 (SANA) Director General of the Syrian Development Fund Safwat Raslan on Sunday discussed prospects for joint cooperation with a delegation from Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), with a focus on early recovery and sustainable development programs.

The meeting reviewed financial challenges facing the fund and ongoing efforts to overcome them, alongside continued coordination to devise practical, development-based solutions targeting Syria’s most affected areas to ensure effective and lasting responses.

The Syrian Development Fund is an economic institution established under Decree No. 112 of 2025. It enjoys legal status and financial and administrative independence, is headquartered in Damascus and affiliated with the Presidency of the Republic, and aims to contribute to reconstruction and the rehabilitation and development of infrastructure.

BMZ, founded in 1961, is responsible for shaping Germany’s global development policy. Based in Bonn and Berlin, the ministry works to reduce poverty, protect the environment and promote peace and democracy through sustainable international partnerships.
