Moscow, SANA-Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev saluted the Syrian sports mission taking part in the Sixth Children of Asia International Sports Games hosted by Sakha Republic in Russia, which kicked off on Wednesday.
Athlete Maysa al-Hafi held the flag of the Syrian Arab republic. Syria’s delegation earned a warm standing ovation from Medvedev as it marched past the main stage.
The ceremony was held at the main stadium in the capital Yakutsk. It included a parade of the participant delegations, sports and artistic shows and folklore dances demonstrating the region’s traditions and history, mainly the population’s struggle against a rugged landscape and severe weather.
Syria is taking part in 11 games with a delegation of 50 athletes.
