Syrian’s Ghufran Mohammad wins gold medal in Almaty International Athletics Championships

Astana, SANA – Syrian athlete Ghufran Mohammad won the gold medal in the 400m hurdle race in the International Athletics Championships held in Almaty in Kazakhstan.

Defeating a number of Asian athletes, Mohammad won the first place after running the distance in 58.24 seconds.

In a statement to SANA Sports reporter, coach Belal al-Halabi, who accompanied Mohammad in the tournament, said the competition was strong and the winner’s name was not decided until the final meters, noting that this participation is important for Ghufran Mohammad to prepare for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics due to be held next August.

The Syrian athlete Rahaf Salameh will take part in the high jump competitions in Almaty Championships on Sunday.
