Syria marks World Blood Donor Day

Damascus, SANA-The world celebrates the Blood Donor Day on June 14 every year to send a message of gratitude to those who donate blood to save someone else’s life and to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation for making blood available to those who need it.

In Syria, the World Blood Donation Day has taken special importance since the start of the terrorist war against Syria, with hundreds of blood donation campaigns launched to save injured civilians and military personnel.

In a statement to SANA, Director of Damascus University Transfusion Center Aliaa al-Assad hailed the youth initiatives in organizing blood donation campaigns, explaining that they help provide the amounts of blood needed in hospitals and serve the largest possible numbers of patients.

According to the Center’s statistics, the number of blood donors in donation campaigns this year has so far reached 1,030.
