Aleppo University wins third place in 2016 Int’l Collegiate Programming Contest in Thailand

Bangkok, SANA – Aleppo University team won Thursday the third place within the Middle East and North Africa competitions at the 2016 International Collegiate Programming Contest in Thailand.

The Middle East Contest’s Regional Representative in Syria Tarek Barakat said the international contest is held on the levels of the regions of the Middle East, North Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America.

Aleppo University team, according to Barakart, was ranked 80th out of 128 places, noting that this ranking is considered good given that it is the university’s first-time participation on the international level.

Along with Aleppo University, teams of Tishreen and Damascus universities took part in Thailand Contest that started in mid May. Each Syrian team included five members, three students, a trainer and a supervisor.

The three Syrian teams qualified for participation in this contest after they came among the top ten places in the Arab Collegiate Programming Contest held in Egypt in November 2015.

13 teams from a number of Syrian universities, out of 83 teams from 20 Arab countries, took part in the 18th regional finals of Egypt Contest, that was held in Sharm El-Sheikh. Aleppo University team came second, while the teams of Tishreen and Damascus universities came in the sixth and ninth places respectively.
