Al-Jaafari: Ignoring of terrorism caused its hysterical spread and aggravated humanitarian situation

New York, SANA – Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN Bashar al-Jaafari said it is essential that humanitarian work, being a highly noble mission, not be exploited for achieving goals that harm the countries’ stability.

Humanitarian work must be in line with the guiding principles stated in Resolution no 46/182, on top being respecting the national sovereignty and the role of the country concerned in supervising humanitarian aid distribution inside its territory, al-Jaafari stressed in a statement on Thursday addressing a UN General Assembly session to follow up on Article no 73 of its agenda titled “strengthening of the coordination of humanitarian assistance provided by the United Nations.”

“The way to solve any humanitarian crisis lies in acknowledging its causes and roots without any politicization or distortion of facts,” he said, highlighting also the importance of creating common denominators between the governments concerned on one hand and the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on the other hand as per Resolution no 46/182 instead of manipulating the crises and practicing extortion against these governments to force political concessions.

He warned that the alternative to this approach would be “creative chaos” including establishing “moderate” armed opposition and opening borders to the thugs and human trafficking gangs.

Al-Jaafari regretted that terrorism, which is the main reason behind the humanitarian crisis in Syria, was not sufficiently referred to as such in the currently proposed draft resolution.

Some of the countries that have endorsed the draft intentionally ignored the terrorism of the Takfiri terrorist groups, said al-Jaafari, affirming that it was this ignoring over the past years that has caused terrorism to spread hysterically until it has become a threat to innocent civilians everywhere.

Solving the humanitarian crisis in Syria, according to al-Jaafari, demands unifying all international efforts in the region and the world to fight terrorism and hold accountable the countries that are supporting the armed terrorist groups in Syria in accordance with the Security Council’s resolutions no 2170,2178 and 2199.

Al-Jaafari made it clear that the unilateral coercive economic measures have constituted another main cause of the Syrian people’s suffering, as they have further aggravated the economic and humanitarian situation in Syria.

Syria’s UN Ambassador pointed out that his country is looking forward to holding the World Humanitarian Summit out of its belief in the importance of humanitarian work, reiterating the necessity of addressing the causes of humanitarian crises and aggravation factors and the issue of dividing humanitarian work and coordination with the governments concerned.

Al-Jaafari expressed his regret that Istanbul has been chosen as a venue for this summit at a time when the Turkish regime continues facilitating the entry of terrorists into Syria and their funding and training, in addition to this regime buying stolen oil and antiquities from ISIS and other terrorist organizations.
