Syrian Science Olympiad for teachers (2015) starts with 700 contestants

Damascus, SANA – The 1st stage of the Syrian Science Olympiad for teachers kicked off on Sunday with the participation of 700 teachers in the subjects of math, physics, chemistry, IT and sciences.

This is the second time competitions are organized for teachers after last year’s first experience.

The competitions are held in cooperation between the Ministry of Education and the National Commission for the Syrian Science Olympiad.

In a statement to SANA, Minister Hazwan al-Waz said this Olympiad is of great importance to the effect of assessing the teachers’ capabilities and skills and keeping them up to date with the new changes and developments in education.

For his part, Chairman of the Olympiad Commission Imad al-Azb said this year’s program is much wider than that of 2014 when only four provinces were involved, while now there are 700 contestants.

The final competitions will be held in Damascus next month, as they will involve 45 winners in each subject.
