Moscow, SANA- Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vitaly Churkin stressed that the unwillingness of the US and other Western countries to cooperate with the Syrian government in fighting the ISIS terrorist organization undermines the effectiveness of the efforts exerted for fighting terrorism.
Russia Today website quoted Churkin as saying after the UN Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution on forming an international committee of experts to investigate the use of chemicals in Syria “Our Western colleagues don’t find that there is a necessity of focusing on the terrorist danger in Syria and Iraq through our joint work in fighting the ISIS.”
“We proposed our concept on the front of fighting terrorism in Syria and Iraq, yet, till this moment, we don’t have unified efforts at the international community and the reason behind that is the US and the other Western countries as well as our Western colleagues at the Security Council who don’t want to cooperate with the Syrian Government in this joint war and this undermines the effectiveness of the exerted efforts,” Churkin added.
He went on saying “While working on destroying the chemical weapons in Syria, all cooperated with the Syrian Government and if we did it at that time, so why can’t we do it now at a time when we are facing a very dangerous challenge represented by the ISIS and other terrorist organizations in Syria.”
The UN Security Council on Friday unanimously adopted resolution No. 2235 on forming an international committee of experts to investigate the use of chemicals including chlorine in Syria.
