New York, SANA – A photo exhibition opened at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York showing the damage caused to the Syrian cultural heritage at the hands of the terrorist organizations.
Pictures of Syrian archeological sites and monuments before and after the destruction intentionaly inflicted by the terrorists were showcased at the exhibition, which is organized by the Ministry of Tourism in cooperation with the Syrian mission to the UN and the Syrian American Will Association (SAWA).
Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN Bashar al-Jaafari attended the opening of the exhibition and presented a detailed explanation of the systematic acts of vandalism and destruction carried out by the armed terrorist groups against the Syrian historical treasures.
The latest lingering fears spawn by terror threats are over the ancient renowned ruins of Palmyra in central Syria- designated a UNESCO world heritage site. World concerns were raised after ISIS terrorist organization overran Palmyra and Tadmur city last May.
SAWA also provided explanations to the visitors of the exhibition, which runs through Friday, about the value and historical importance of archeological sites in Syria and the damage they undergo.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and UN representatives of Russia, India, Iran and Pakistan attended the exhibition.
Tourism Ministry has organized various events and activities abroad that shed light on Syria’s heritage and historical treasures, the latest was the Syrian Tourism Day in Italy.
