Conference on rebuilding Syria opens activities at Damascus University

Damascus, SANA-International conference of “Syria… to Reconstruction” started it activities at Damascus University with participation of Arab and foreign researchers.

Syria’s Grand Mufti, sheikh Ahmad Badre al-Din Hassoun said that those who perpetrate acts of killing and destruction have no place in Syria, adding that building in Syria has never stopped, but ‘building the human is holier than building mosques or churches.”

“The Syrian people have never come out to fight anyone, but they came out to convey the message of amity, peace and defending the Homeland,” the Mufti said in a speech at the conference.

Professor Declan Hayes, for his part, called for combating terrorism and extremism, saying that Syria was a victim of the global policy.

He affirmed that Syria will last for thousands of years, hoping security and stability would return to the homeland.

Armenian Ambassador in Damascus Arshak Poladian said the Syrian people, who daily confront terrorism, recognize the pain and dilemma of the Armenian people who encountered genocide at the hands of ottomans.

“More than 1.5 million of the Armenian people have been killed and other survivors fled to Bilad al-Sham, particularly to Syria which welcomed them and offered haven to them,” the Ambassador added.

For his part, Rector of Damascus University Mohammad Hassan al-Kurdi said the conference is very important in consolidating the scientific, academic and national role of the university in light of the unjust war waged on the Syrian people.

Later, the participants discussed possibilities and means of dialogue in societies which witness conflicts through presenting experiments and theories, calling for offering support to Syria against terrorism.

On the sidelines of the conference, an exhibition on documenting the massacres and violations perpetrated against Syria and the Armenian genocide was inaugurated.

The exhibition displayed nearly 100 pictures and three projects by Faculty of Architecture about rebuilding three affected regions, mainly Ma’alola, al-Qanoun and Daf al-Shouk.
