Damascus, SANA – Health Minister Nizar Yazigi said the pharmaceutical sector has stood its ground firmly despite the systematic targeting of the entire health sector under the four-year-long terrorism crisis.
The grave impacts of the terrorist organizations’ attacks against the health, medical and pharmaceutical facilities have been compounded by the unfair economic blockade imposed on the country, which has taken a grim toll not just on health but on all other sectors causing severe equipment shortages.
Talking during the 33rd annual general conference of the Syrian Pharmacists Syndicate in Damascus on Thursday, the Minister stressed that the pharmaceutical sector has achieved a 80-80 % coverage rate of the locally made medicines.
He noted that about 600 shipments of medicines and medical supplies and equipment have been delivered to all Syrian provinces, including areas difficult to reach due to the security situation.
On the sidelines of the conference, a medical exhibition was held with the participation of many pharmaceutical and medical companies. The exhibition aimed at strengthening the links between medical and pharmaceutical professionals and medicine manufacturers and importers.
